Community Navigator
Maria joined Refugee & Immigrant Transitions in January 2017. She was born in Guatemala and speaks Mam and Spanish. She works at Oakland Unified School District. Maria provides language translation and interpretation services to RIT’s Mam-speaking students and families in Oakland. She frequently visits different schools in Oakland; helps to set up appointments, fill out applications, accompany students and their families; and ensures the students are receiving the services they need. She finds joy in being able to support the students and families in their own native language.
